A plane wave is a propagating single-frequency electromagnetic wave of infinite extent that propagates in one direction. The surfaces of constant phase (wavefronts) for a plane wave are parallel planes that are perpendicular to the propagation direction. The peak-to-peak amplitude of a plane wave is constant for all positions along the direction of propagation.
